Palm Springs is about two hours east of Orange County on the 10, and the drive is a fixed and predictable quantity except during festival season, when it is neither.

The 10 runs east from the Los Angeles basin through the San Gorgonio Pass into the valley, with Highway 111 running southeast through Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells and La Quinta.
The valley cities are strung along that corridor over roughly twenty-five miles, so "Palm Springs" and "La Quinta" are a real distance apart — worth being specific about when booking.
