The desert run is a fixed quantity: east on the 91, then the 10 through the San Gorgonio Pass, roughly two hours door to door outside festival season.
It is also long enough that the vehicle matters. Two hours in a sedan is fine for two people; two hours for six people with golf bags is a different proposition.
What to know about this transfer
The 91 eastbound is the first and worst constraint. Leaving Orange County after 2pm on a weekday adds substantial time, and we advise departure windows accordingly.
During Coachella and Stagecoach weekends in April the corridor carries extraordinary volume. Book the return in advance — this is the single most useful thing you can do.
For groups, an executive Sprinter or mini coach turns the drive into part of the trip rather than a two-hour endurance test.
