San Clemente is the last city in Orange County heading south, and the first place where San Diego is unambiguously the closer airport. That single fact shapes most of the transportation advice we give here.
It is a surf town with a genuine Spanish Colonial town centre, and the coastal geography — a town built on bluffs above the beach — makes some addresses more complicated to reach than a map suggests.
Getting around San Clemente
The town sits on bluffs above the coast, with Avenida Del Mar running down to the pier and El Camino Real as the main spine parallel to the 5. The streets down to the beach are steep and narrow, and the Pier Bowl area has very limited parking.
Talega, the large master-planned community inland and north, is a completely different pickup environment — wide roads, newer development, and closer to the 5.
For airports, San Diego at roughly 50 miles is straightforwardly closer than LAX at around 75, and the drive down the 5 through Camp Pendleton is usually more predictable than anything heading north.

Corporate transportation in San Clemente
San Clemente is residential and tourism-led rather than corporate, and its business travel is almost entirely outbound airport transfers from home addresses.
Weddings and events in San Clemente
Coastal weddings run through spring and summer, frequently at bluff-top venues with limited guest parking where a shuttle is essential.
Surf competitions at Trestles and the pier draw seasonal crowds, and the Ocean Festival each summer closes the Pier Bowl area.
